There will be road works in and around Mere between Monday 18th and Friday 29th March 2019, which will affect Castle Street between 9.30 and 15.30 so please:
- Give yourself extra journey time to reach us or get to your appointment.
- You may be diverted or delayed, but please do make the effort, we really need your support.
- There will also be lots of drivers who are a little confused about where to go on the smaller lanes, so please drive carefully and be considerate.
The contractor’s map shows that the road will be closed from the old Lloyds Bank building to just before the entrance to Dead Maids Quarry business estate.
The junction of the roads to Gillingham, Maiden Bradley and the Dead Maids Quarry business estate should remain open, as should the junction of The Square, Manor Rd and Church St in Mere.
The contractors are not allowed to work outside of these hours, when traffic will revert to 2-way
Pedestrian access should be maintained but motorists should expect delays.
‘Gatemen’ will be posted at each end and will allow access for businesses and residents located in the closed road.
If your house or road adjoins the closed road then you will need to travel along the part of the road which is not being worked on. If this is not the direction in which you want to travel, then when you leave the section, you will need to find an alternative route to where you want to go.
If the contractors are working at the junction with your road, then no doubt the contractors will direct you.
The contractors will try to leave open a route from Barton Lane to the Castle Street car park.
To prevent parking, bollards will be placed along the section of the road to be repaired the next day.
